Many government agencies and nonprofit organizations are devoted to issues of race and ethnic inequalities in the United States. To begin your exploration of these Websites, go to the Companion Website at www.pearsonhigherd.com/coleman. Enter Chapter 8 and choose the Web destination module from the navigation bar.
In recent years the U.S. Census Bureau has compiled reports profiling the status and conditions of different minority groups in the United States. Go to www.census.gove, and find the most recent profile of The Black Population in the United States. From the Census Bureau Web page, click of “R,” then under race, click on “People.” In the Current Population Survey, click on the Black Population in the U.S. From the information contained in the summary report, how can we describe differences in educational attainment between blacks and whites in the United States in recent years? From what you have read, how can you explain some of these differences?
