The education consists of workshops, seminars and group discussions during 17 days at sea on board a tall ship. An active participation in the educations on board is a requirement. It is also required that the student should participate as a sailor in sailing the ship by being a member in the watch duties on the ship around the clock. All participants will receive a sailors certificate for this duty. Some time for studies and reflection will also be available.
The students will be requested to write project papers and to active participate in the education.
Travel costs to and from the boat will be the responsibility of the participants and their universities.
For those who need visas: invitations will be issued by the BUP secretariat in Uppsala – please contact Maria Hejna directly.
The SAIL course is registered at Uppsala University and gives 7,5 ECTS credit points to those students who fulfil the requirements and pass the course.
Uppsala Centre for Sustainable Development
The SAIL course, as any other Uppsala University’s course, is open for everybody and BUP’s students have to apply for the course at the Uppsala university registration office through the internet page https://www.antagning.se/se/start.
This site will be open for applications for autumn courses first on 15th of March and closed at 15th of April.
Starting from this year it will be extremely important that our students will add to the applications’ papers any document certifying their or theirs universities belonging to the Baltic University Programme – BUP’s courses’ certificates will be extremely important to show as much as BUP’s interuniversity agreements, course agreements, BUP’s declaration of cooperation – BUP’s centers and our teachers are asked to help students who will apply for SAIL course this year to collect all necessary documents needed for registration.
Please note that you will not only be crew members who are expected to work in watches with navigating, cleaning, cooking, and maintaining the boat, but you are also expected to be good students and to actively participate in lessons and classes on board which means that this course is really demanding and physically challenging.
Important - all students are obliged to fulfil all the course steps – starting from the preparation process, followed by active participation on board and ending with the final paper that will be checked by the teachers. Those students who fulfil the requirements and pass the course will receive 7,5 ECTS credit points from Uppsala University.
A more detailed course schedule will come later.
The course will be prepared and run on board by an international group of teachers. More information about the teachers’ crew will come later.
