Seven of Ten Renters Say Home Ownership is Top Priority Caption: Richard Filip, CEO, RE/MAX of Texas Houston, Texas – August 22, 2011- Is owning a home a solid financial decision? Most Americans say yes, according to the 2011 National Housing Pulse Survey released by the National Association of REALTORS®. Seventy percent believe that buying a home is a good financial decision, and almost two-thirds responded now is a good time to purchase a home. “The majority of Americans have aspirations of home ownership, despite today’s economic climate,” according to Richard Filip, CEO, RE/MAX of Texas. “It promotes financial stability, builds strong neighborhoods, and has a significant impact on a community’s vitality.” Topping the list of reasons renters desire home ownership were safety and stability, followed by building equity. Their biggest concerns? The drop in home values and neighbors falling behind on their mortgages. Eighty-two percent of respondents say having enough money for a down payment and closing costs are among the top roadblocks to home ownership, followed by job security. These survey results have been consistent over the past eight years. In order to encourage local REALTOR® associations to help make affordable housing more available in their communities, NAR created the Housing Opportunity Program (www.realtor.org/housingopportunity) in 2002. “Invest in your future, but don’t enter into the largest financial transaction of your life without qualified representation,” Filip reminded. “You wouldn’t invest $100,000 with a part-time investment counselor; be sure to exercise the same prudence when engaging your real estate agent.” RE/MAX agents conduct residential, commercial and investment real estate throughout Texas, and the world, leading the industry in experience, productivity and advanced professional designations. RE/MAX agents have donated over $100 Million Dollars to charities involving children's health care, the Komen fight against breast cancer, and severely injured military veterans. Nobody in the world sells more real estate than RE/MAX. For more information visit www.remaxtexas.com. # # # Contact: Mike Sumerlin, RE/MAX of Texas 832 321 9029 281 828 8888 mike@remaxtexas.com; |
